Christianity has a lot to say about forgiveness, about forgiving each other for past wrongs, and I just want to add a few quick words about it.
Forgiveness is not done for the benefit of the forgiven. It is done for the benefit of the forgiver. When you forgive someone, it is a decision you make that says, “I’m not going to let this hurt me anymore.” Every time we think of the event we experience the residual pain or anger all over again, and that’s a crappy way to go through life.
Sometimes you can’t let it go. But we can forgive. That brings the power and energy back to you. You are the one who was wronged, only you have the power to forgive. To exercise that power, to consciously be the better person in that situation, liberates.
